The alliance had picketed Singha Durbar on Sunday and Monday but decided to picket the PM residence after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was found to be carrying out regular work from Baluwatar.
A big rally has marched towards Baluwatar after converging in Bhatbhateni. Traffic in Baluwatar and surrounding has been disrupted due to the protest programme.
Demonstrators clashed with police when attempting to break into the prohibited zone in course of today's agitation programme.
The agitators accused the security personnel of appearing more aggressive and belligerent and using force against those staging the sit in.
The police recount a different story claiming they resorted to use of force to push back the agitators who were attempting to march forward after breaking through the prohibited zone barricade.
At least one policeman was injured in the scuffle, police said.
Meanwhile, among the demonstrators, Ranjit Gosami sustained injuries during the clash, said Durga Subedi of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, a constituent of the Alliance.
Traffic in the area was disrupted as the cadres and leaders of the alliance staged demonstrations and chanted slogans. As a result, passengers were affected the most as they had to walk to reach their destinations.
A large number of security personnel of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were stationed at the area adjoining the premises of Baluwatar, the Prime Minister's official residence, to prevent the protesters from entering the prohibited area.
The prohibited areas include Baluwatar to Italian Chowk to the south and Pabitra workshop to the north, the area covering 100 meters from the residence of Speaker to Gairidhara to the south and 100 meters from the residence of the Chief Justice to Lajimpat and 100 meters from Nepal Rastra Bank at Baluwatar.
The Alliance comprising 29 political parties had picketed the Singha Durbar – a complex of government's central offices – for the last two days before heading to Baluwatar. The parties have reservations over some provisions of the new constitution.
The Alliance had staged sit in and demonstrated at Maitighar and Hanumansthan – the south west and south east gateway to Singha Durbar – on whole of Sunday and Monday. The Alliance moved to picket Baluwatar at 10 am thereby changing its location of demonstration.
