British national Martin Travers was released on Tuesday as his involvement in the Madhesi-Janajati protest was not proved.British national Martin Travers was released on Tuesday as his involvement in the Madhesi-Janajati protest was not proved.
Police caught him on Monday on the charge of attending the anti-constitution protest organised by the Sanghiya Gathabandhan around Singha Durbar. The authorities had taken offence to his “joining the protest with a red band on his forehead with a political message”. SP Pradhyumna Karki said he was handed over to the British Embassy in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Police found that he was influenced by the protesters. Martin, 41, a Mural painter, was held following reports of foreigners’ involvement in the political protest.
“I am happy the situation is over and that I was treated fairly by the police. I understand that these are difficult times here in Nepal but I am sure that Nepali people will work through this together,” Travers said after his release. (PR)
