Following the arrest, it has been reported that the hospital’s team led by Executive Director Chin Bahadur Pun have approached the District Police Office and the District Administration Office with the request to free the five persons.
Superintendent of Police Basanta Kunwar said he turned down the release appeal made by the hospital’s team. He added that a case has already been filed against the arrestees.
Police had arrested Pramila Ghimire, Sobit Lal Yadav, Somlal Nagila, Dipak Sapkota and Dani Kumar Yadav on Friday.
After police refused to release them, the hospital’s delegation had reached the office of Chief District Officer Binod Prakash Singh for help. Singh said Pun and the company visited him with the assurance that the five hospital employees would not repeat their offence.
This in not the first instance of patients being sent to private clinics by the employees of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital. Police had arrested 15 people for the same offence in the past.
