All public vehicles remained off the road from early morning today and the protesters took to vandalism at some places in the Capital. Two taxis were vandalised in Kalimati and Cabahil by the protestors.
Spokesperson for Metropolitan Police Range Pradyumna Karki informed 52 individuals were arrested while enforcing shutdown in Capital.
Normal life was affected by the strike and general public were forced to bear its brunt.
Around 4,000 security personnel were deployed in Capital to prevent any untoward incidents.
Spokesperson at Home Ministry, Yadav Koirala, said stern action will be taken against those trying to obstruct movement of private vehicles and disrupt the mobility of passengers.
Vehicles stayed off the road in Birgunj, Biratnagar, Pokhara, and Nepalgunj among other major cities outside the valley.
The government had amended the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act 1993 seven months ago to increase the penalty for breaching the traffic rules. The range of fine has been increased from the previous Rs 25 to Rs200 to between Rs500 and Rs1,500 at present.
