Forty-one Nepali migrant workers employed with G4S Secure Solution in Kabul, Afghanistan, left for Kathmandu on Tuesday. On Sunday, the company had sent 41 Nepali migrant workers back to Nepal.
The group flew from Kabul at 2:30pm local time and will land in Kathmandu at 10am on Wednesday.
Following the deadly explosion in Kabul on June 20 that killed 13 Nepali security personnel working for the local Canadian embassy, a total of 106 Nepali migrant workers have returned to Nepal.
After the incident, Nepalis working in Afghanistan
have demanded better security and a hike in monthly pay up to $1050. But the employer and the contracting company have expressed their inability to address their demands. Upset by the response, the migrant workers decided to return home.
“We got tickets for 41 people and are returning by the same flight. Some friends have not got the flight tickets and are staying back in the camp,” said Hom Bahadur Thapa, who was boarding the Kabul-Kathmandu flight via New Delhi.
There are 385 Nepali workers employed by the company.
The Nepali workers employed by G4S had
agreed to jointly put the demands before the company management but after “those not working properly” were sent back, the workers remained divided. On Saturday the workers quarrelled among themselves over the disagreement.
“Some friends returned to work. They are now doing 12-hour duty,” said Thapa. Those who decided to return to Nepal were escorted to the airport by the Afghan police.
