Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Kantipur Chapter, has expressed its objection over the incident of death threat to journalist Ashwini Koirala by one Anoj Shakya living in Japan.Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Kantipur Chapter, has expressed its objection over the incident of death threat to journalist Ashwini Koirala by one Anoj Shakya living in Japan.
Journalist Koirala had published a news report on Saptahik—a weekly magazine of Kantipur Publications—about sexual violence faced by Nepali cine actress Gauri Malla while she was in Japan.
Koirala had prepared the news report based on telephone and online conversations with Shakya, who is alleged of the sexual harassment. However, Shakya took to exception after the news report did not favour him.
According to Koirala, Shakya has been continuously threatening him using abusive language from past 48 hours and causing unnecessary mental stress. He [Shakya] even warned of 'dire consequences' by hiring professional goons in Nepal, Koirala said.
"According to various news reports, Japan-based Nepali embassy has already questioned Shakya over his misbehavior and Shakya has apologised for the same. In such perspective, threatening a journalist is disgraceful and we strongly condemn it," a statement released by FNJ-Kantipur on Sunday reads.
The statement has asked Shakya to present his dissents at Press Council if he feels victimised by the news report and also suggests him refrain from threat remarks in future.
