Flood victims return as water recedes

“We also have been preparing to control the epidemic in the flood-hit areas,” said Chief District Officer Rabilal Pantha.
In Rasuwa, the Trishuli-Syaphru section of Pasang Lhamu Highway has been obstructed due to the landslides for the past three days. District Police
Office said dozens of vehicles and passengers have been stranded in the highway area.
In Sindupalchok, the construction of an alternative route connecting Barhabise-Tatopani has come to a halt due to a heavy rain on Wednesday night. The road sections in Jambu, Larcha and Liping areas are exposed to land cave-in, said Division Road Office in Charikot.
Around 250 families of six villages in Rolpa have left their homes for a safer location, fearing more flooding and land erosion. Villagers of Uwa, Rig, Tirangi, Laganja and Pusbang are staying in Tharpu forest and the building of local Bhanubhakta Secondary School, police said.
Meanwhile, Bhawani Gharti, who was injured in a landslide in Hwangdi, Gulmi, has been pulled out of the debris of her house 48 hours after the disaster, police said. The 35-year-old, critically injured in the incident, was first taken to District Hospital but the doctors there referred her to Palpa Hospital for further treatment. At least 10 people were killed in the landslides and floods in the district over a week.
At least 77 people have been reported dead in floods and landslides across the country since Monday.
Nine persons are still missing. However, the Home Ministry has put the death toll from the water-induced disasters at 57. Pyuthan district has been hit the hardest, with at least 36 deaths from separate incidents of flooding and
landslide.
