Govt doles out Rs 14m to ‘UML, Maoist cadres’

The amount was released through the Home Ministry, though no criteria were
set for it.
For instance, the ministry has distributed Rs 500,000 to several people, including Somnath Adhikari, a cadre of the ruling CPN-UML in Kaski, without specifying the purpose.
An official at the ministry said that most of people who received the money from the Home Ministry are either UML or CPN-Maoist Centre cadres.
The ministry has a policy of providing economic assistance to the needy and deprived citizens in times of sickness, injuries caused by road accidents and natural calamities.
However, the ministry official said, many of the recipients do not fall into the stated category, the official added.
Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi also confirmed that the amount was released according to the proposal tabled by the ministry.
In a similar incident in October 2015, the government had released over Rs 20 million to 191 people without any valid reasons.
