The Bibeksheel Nepali, a political party, has lodged a complaint at the National Information Commission (NIC) seeking property details of chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lok Man Singh Karki.

The party has stated that the CIAA failed to provide information on Karki’s property details on multiple occasions and officials had even denied registering an application.

Yashoda Devi Timsina, spokesperson for the NIC, on Monday confirmed that the commission had received the complaint from the party. “The application is in process of further action,” Timsina said, but denied to make further comment.

Bibeksheel Nepali and Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance have been staging a protest for a month outside the CIAA office demanding property details of the chief of the anti-graft. But each time, police have manhandled the protesters.

Following frequent protests, the District Administration Office has imposed restriction on all kind of protest programmes  in the area around the CIAA premises in Tangal.

Sashi Bikram Karki, Bhaktapur District Coordinator of Bibeksheel Nepali said the CIAA has been repeatedly denying re-appeal on the property detail application.

“We again tried to lodge another complaint on Sunday, but the officials did not allow us to do so,” said Karki. “We then decided to go to information commission.”

Under the existing provision, the NIC will have to direct the CIAA to provide information to the applicants.

Issuing a statement on Monday, the Bibeksheel Nepali said that it is essential for leaders of political parties and people assuming public position should make public their property details.

The political party has been actively supporting Dr KC in his past movements against corruption and anomalies in medical education.

Recently, Dr KC had staged fast-unto-death for the eighth time, demanding impeachment of CIAA chief Karki, among other things. Many supporters of Dr KC has since been pressing the parliamentarians to initiate impeachment process, while also demanding property details of the CIAA chief.
