Having beaten local outfits Erchim FC in their Group ‘B’ opening game on Sunday, a victory against the Nagaworld in the three-team pool would have guaranteed Three Star a place in the AFC Cup Qualifiers. But the draw on Tuesday meant Three Star now wait for the match between Nagaworld and Erchim to learn their fate.
While Three Star lead the standings with four points, Nagaworld have one and Erchim, who are knocked out from the Playoffs following Tuesday’s draw, are yet to open their account.
A draw between Nagaworld and Erchim will see Three Star go through. Nagaworld need to win their match against Erchim with at least a three-goal margin to make it through to the next round.
Buoyed by a 2-0 victory against the Mongolian League winners on Sunday, Three Star were left shell-shocked when Nhim Sovannara put Nagaworld 1-0 up in the 28th minute. Three Star kept piling pressure on the Cambodian club and they were duly rewarded in the 87th minute when Ajayi Martins Kayode poked in from close range following a corner from Sunil Bal.
