Hospital is no place to be sick (in pictures)
I returned with a hope that the place whose primary task is to help people recuperate from their health does not become a cause of worsening the patients’ plight.Hospital is a place where people visit to get healed or cured. But ironically a poorly managed hospital could induce another illness—at least psychologically. The pathetic condition there will definitely affect the hospital’s efficiency.
In recent years, hospitals in Kathmandu have witnessed a substantial progress with modernisation of infrastructures. In spite of the competition among private hospitals for better service, some government-run hospitals have simply failed to catch up with the evolution in terms of hygiene, and patients’ service.
Here is an experience shared by the Post photographer Prakash Chandra Timilsena during his visit to Kanti Children's Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Friday.
"I reached Kanti Children’s Hospital at around midday today. There I saw hordes of people carrying their children for check-up. I was on an assignment to cover our newly appointed Health Minister Gagan Thapa’s visit to the hospital. Women were breast-feeding their babies while sitting on the floor as there was no chair and proper waiting room. They had to queue up for hours at the counter. It was frustrating to see the management's apathy towards people's miseries. The condition of hospital toilets and unmanaged wastes were annoying. I returned with a hope that the place that's primary task is to help people recuperate from their health does not become a cause of worsening the patients’ plight.”
