Some leaders from the establishment faction of CPN (Maoist Centre) are dissatisfied by the fact that most of the party’s sister organisations are now being headed by the rival camp members, led by Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’.

The resentment has already started to cause friction in some of the organisations, particularly the journalists’ wing of the party, Press Centre Nepal (PCN), and the women’s wing, All Nepal Women’s Association Revolutionary (ANWA-R).

A PCN leader from the establishment faction said the organisation could split any time, because a junior party member from the Badal camp was given a position higher than that of the PCN President, Govinda Acharya.

Another leader claimed that most of the journalists who were appointed the party’s national convention organising committee members from the Badal faction are not even fit to represent the party’s VDC level committee.

The ANWA-R, meanwhile, is going through a worst kind of dispute, with leaders from the establishment berating the rival leaders even at public events.

After Dharmashila Chapagain, who is affiliated to the party’s establishment, was supplanted by the Badal loyalist, Amrita Thapa, as the ANWA-R chairperson, the Maoist’s women organisation has fallen into a state of disarray, because of the factional war.

On Thursday, Chapagain attacked Thapa’s personal life at a function in the Capital.

“A woman having no man in life to support her either as a husband, a father, or a brother have to shun politics even in a party like the Maoist Centre which sacrificed a large number of women for their rights,” she declared.

She also lambasted the party chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, for “failing to intervene” when his own side was being cornered by the rival camp.

Festering factional war inside the party is also said to be the reason why Urmila Aryal quit as the women faction in-charge of the party.

A senior Maoist leader confirmed that Aryal had strong displeasure over the party’s working style.

Aryal, who had joined the Maoist Centre from the CPN-UML, has been inactive for a while. She was not available for a comment.
