So far, the reports have confirmed death of 22 people including four Indian nationals. Likewise, four people have gone missing in the river, according to police. Police state there were 42 people including three bus staffs onboard the bus.
However, a new fact has come to light. Till Sunday, police have received applications to search for a total of 12 people, including one Indian, missing after the accident. The relatives of missing passengers claim that their kin had boarded the bus from midway.
The names of these additional passengers were not registered by the bus staffs as they had boarded the bus from midway, relatives say. They had arrived from village to partake in an examination of Teachers Service Commission, it is learnt.
Some relatives claim that they have recovered bags of their missing kin. But a disaster management team of Armed Police Force that has been searching the area for missing people has not recovered any of them till Sunday.
The ill-fated bus (Ga 1 Kha 3709) en route from Rautahat to Pokhara plunged 200 meters down the road into the Trishuli River at Chandibhanjyang-6, Kalikhola, along the Muglin- Narayangadh road section on Friday.
Police Chief SP Basanta Kunwar said that all the dead bodies have been claimed by the relatives. Talking about these newly reported missing people, SP Kunwar said, "These people who have been claimed missing are not in our record. We have begun a serious probe into the matter."
The police have requested the kin to present any form of evidences that suggest that these people had boarded the bus. This new fact suggests the bus was carrying passengers more than its normal capacity.
Central Regional Police Office's Hetauda DIG Pashupati Upadhyay reached the accident site and inquired about the matter. "I have instructed our personnel to investigate whether the claim for missing people is true or not," he said, "So far, there are no evidences to show that they were on the bus."
Bag of one missing person—Rajkumar Singh—was found from the accident site. It is said that he had boarded the bus from Garuda. His relative Arbind Singh said that a person who boards bus from midway gets ticket but their name does not appear on the record.
