Call for reforming Nat’l Youth Council
Inter-Party Youth Alliance, a group of ten major political youth forces in the country, has demanded dissolution of the incumbent National Youth CouncilInter-Party Youth Alliance, a group of ten major political youth forces in the country, has demanded dissolution of the incumbent National Youth Council, claiming that the erstwhile government that formed the council had failed to understand the sentiments of youths and treated it as a political organisation by inducting party cadres.
The alliance has proposed reconstituting the council by accommodating youths from across the country, including the youths affiliated to all major political parties. The alliance submitted a memorandum to this end to Minister of Youth and Sports Daljit Shrepaili at Singha Durbar on Sunday. The alliance has played a significant role in the formation of this ministry and in process of setting up the council, read the memorandum. “We have also assisted the ministry in most of its endeavours while promoting youth awareness.
But since the council was formed, the alliance has been sidelined in all major activities and priority is being given to only one particular party,” it said.
In March, the CPN-UML government had appointed Madhav Dhungel as the vice president of the council. A majority of the posts in the council were also handed over to the UML cadres. The alliance has since boycotted all event of the council.
