A worker involved in a reconstruction project in Langtang area has been missing since Sunday after a tuin snapped while he was crossing the Langtang stream.A worker involved in a reconstruction project in Langtang area has been missing since Sunday after a tuin snapped while he was crossing the Langtang stream.
Police identified the victim as Pasang Tamang, 18, of Phijiphalat-1 in Okhaldhunga district. The incident happened as Tamang was crossing the stream in Ghodatabela, Rasuwa, carrying fuel for a sawmill in Langtang Valley where he had been working on the reconstruction project. Langtang, a popular tourist destination, was ruined by an avalanche triggered by the devastating earthquake last year. Om Nepal, an NGO in the district, has been supporting the local people in Langtang to rebuild their houses with the assistance of Samaritan’s purse.
Engineer Dhruba Adhikari, Rasuwa coordinator of Samaritan’s purse, said Tamang fell into the stream and went missing as the tuin snapped.
The incident site is about two days walk from Dhunche, the district headquarters of Rasuwa.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Phanindra Prasai, a police team has been dispatched in the area from Syaphrubesi. The security personnel, local people and employees of various organisations working in the area have been searching the victim.
People in remote area in the district have to risk their lives while crossing the river on a tuin due to the lack of a suspension bridge.
In October last year, the KP Sharma Oli Cabinet decided to replace around 350 wire crossings (tuins) with safer suspension bridges across the country within two years. However, there has been little progress to accomplice the ambitious plan.
