The Kathmandu District Court has remanded notorious gangster Rajiv Gurung alias Deepak Manange and his aide Rajan Kumar Singh into custody for trail on Tuesday. He has been taken to Dillibazar jail.

A single bench of additional Justice Rishikesh Wagle ordered Manange and his aide be sent to custody pending the trail of extortion case against the well-known gangster.

The Metropolitan Police Crime Division had arrested Manange on July 2 for extorting Rs 50,000 from a businessman.

Manange was arrested as he was awaiting the Special Court’s verdict in a case where he is accused of amassing wealth through illegal means. Manange and his men control several night clubs and bars in Thamel. They are also known for extorting local businessmen and running protection racket in the area.
