Rastriya Prajantantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) Chairman Kamal Thapa has remarked that a  proposal to end secularism and reinstate Hindu state should be brought along while tabling the constitution amendment proposal to address the demands of Madhes-based political parties.

Thapa, who was Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in the erstwhile Oli-led government, said so while talking to media persons in Rajbiraj, Saptari district headquarters on Wednesday.

Expressing his complete allegiance to the monarchy, Thapa said, “Though my party RPP-N and I are still committed to monarchy, it is up to the Nepali people whether or not to reinstate monarchy.”

He said that RPP-N would always support the proposal that would be in the broader interests of people. However, the proposal that is being brought to address the Madies-based parties is just for show.

Thapa claimed that the current ruling coalition of Nepali Congress (NC) and UCPN (Maoist Centre) is only using the Madhesi parties. “Madhesi people are only being duped,” said Thapa. He added that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Thapa has only demonstrated his immaturity and short-sightedness by saying that he would bring the proposal for constitution amendment.

“PM Dahal has said he would bring the constitution amendment proposal before his visit to India. Does it mean that the constitution wouldn’t be amended if PM didn’t go to India? This only shows the PM’s myopic vision,” said Thapa.

“The current talk about amending the constitution is nothing but an attempt to deceive the Madhesi parties, throw dust in the people’s eyes and please India,”
