The committee investigating into the boat accident in Saptakoshi River on September 17 has concluded that the incident occurred due to a boatman’s negligence. The boatman was inexperienced and also drunk at the time, the committee said in a report released on Monday. The boat was carrying passengers beyond its capacity. The three-member probe panel led by Assistant Chief District Officer Kamal Bahadur Thapa was formed last week to probe the incident. According to the villagers, 62 people, including women and children, were on board the boat when it capsized. While police had rescued 37 people from the incident site, nine people are still missing.
