Speaking at a function organised by the party in the Capital on Tuesday on the occasion of the upcoming festive season, Deuba underscored the importance of holding the local elections as soon as possible for smooth implementation of the constitution adopted last year.
“In fact, all three layers of election—local, provincial and federal—are absolutely necessary to implement the constitution,” said Deuba. “Therefore, I request all the leaders and cadres to make efforts to take the Nepali Congress to the general public.”
He added that negotiations on holding the local elections were yet to be finalised. Deuba also requested his cadres to go to the polls with a unified front, by rising above factionalism that has marred the NC of late. “Then only will we win and institutionalise the kind of democracy the party dreams of,” he remarked.
