Thakur’s driver arrested over Sept 9 robbery

Robbers had stormed into Thakur’s house in Bhaktapur on September 9 and made off with a briefcase that contained party papers and some cash. Thakur’s daughter Dr Minakshi Thakur (Jha) sustained injuries in the scuffle with the robbers.
Police arrested Ranjit Prasad Gupta, 23, of Sarlahi, who worked as a driver for Thakur for over five months, and Prachanda Pratap Singh aka Pramananda of Mahottari. According to Superintendent of Police Pratap Jung Karki, acting chief of Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Gupta threw chilli powder at Dr Minakshi to conceal his identity. “They had use arms to threaten her,” said SP Thapa. “Gupta, who was familiar with the house, had directly entered a room and picked up the briefcase.” Singh had stayed outside the house to alert Gupta, SP Thapa explained. But he declined to reveal the amount that was inside the briefcase.
The arrestees have been presented before the Bhaktapur District Court and further investigations are underway.
