The government is under pressure from the Madhesi and Tharu parties to withdraw the cases against those involved in the carnage.
The lawmakers engaged in a debate going against the agenda of the Public Affairs Committee meeting which was called to discuss the government’s preparations for the election.
UML lawmakers had criticised the home minister and the law minister for preparing to withdraw the cases. The committee had called the ministers to inform it about the poll preparations.
No sooner had the meeting started than UML lawmaker Yagya Raj Sunuwar warned the government not to withdraw the cases against those involved in the heinous crime. “What was the fault of the two-year child killed in the carnage? It’s a crime that cannot be pardoned,” he said.
In response, Ram Jajam Chaudhary of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik warned that
no election would be held in the country unless all the cases related to the incident were withdrawn.
