On Tuesday, mud and rocks fell from Krishna Bhir, blocking the Chatara-Barah Chhetra road section.
Passengers heading from Dharan to Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Udayapur and Barah Chhetra have been left stranded due to the landslide.
Barah Chhetra is a popular pilgrimage site.
“The new Saptakoshi Bridge connects Sunsari and Udayapur. The road was always at risk due to lack of adequate measures to control landslides,” said Raju Ghimire, a local. According to him, vehicular movement along the Udayapur-Barah Chhetra section has come to a halt for the past three days after the landslide. “Locals have cleared the debris to some extent and formed a temporary path for pedestrians,” he said.
Due to the road obstruction, people travelling for the Dashain festival are facing a hard time.
Another local Ramesh Bista said that there are landslides at half a dozen places along the Chatara-Barah road.
