Talking to reporters in Besishahar, Lamjung, on Monday, Rai charged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal with trying to deceive the agitating parties over the issue of constitution amendment.
“The prime minister first promised to table an amendment proposal before his India visit. Later he pledged to file the proposal soon after his return from India before Dashain. Now he says the proposal will be tabled after he returns from Goa,” said Rai, adding that Dahal could delay the amendment proposal again on various pretexts.
“We will take to the streets soon after Chhath if the government does not table the amendment proposal before the festival,” he asserted.
Rai said PM Dahal attempted to escape by blaming the CPN-UML. “It is pointless to blame the UML. The UML is in opposition, it may try to disrupt the amendment process. But it is the government’s failure to take the UML and other parties into confidence,” he added. Rai said the agitating parties would not join the Cabinet before another statute revision.
