President Bidyha Devi Bhandari on Thursday underscored the need of establishing the ideals of the Vedic values.

Inaugurating the International Sanatan Vedic Arya Conference at Tundikhel in the Capital, President Bhandari extolled the virtues of the Vedic cultures including Yoga and Ayurveda.

Stating that the Vedic era had accorded equal rights to women, Bhandari said

that that such a glorious tradition saw erosion in the post-Vedic era.

She underscored Vedic knowledge to propagate the essence of “Basudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The world is a single family) and “Sarve Bahwanti Sukhina” (May all be happy).

On the occasion, Swami Sampurnananda Saraswati lauded luminaries Sita

and Buddha whose deeds,

he added, shone a light on Nepal.

He also argued that the birth of Lord Rama would not have been realised if sage Shringi, who resided in Dolakha in Nepal, had not gone to Ayodhya in India and performed yagya at King Dasharath’s palace.

Similarly, Janardan Ghimire, a Sanskrit teacher at Tribhuvan University, pointed at the need to promote Vedic knowledge in every household by translating Vedas in Nepali language.

Altogether 8,500 representatives, including 5,000 from

the host country and 3,000 from India and other countries, are taking part in the conference.

A procession was held after the inauguration.

During the three-day conference, yoga camps will be held from 5am to 6am.

Similarly, eight separate conferences will be organised on the sidelines, according to the organisers.

The conference is organised by Nepal Arya Society.

The Society was first established by Swami Dayananda Saraswati in 1875 in India. Its Nepal chapter was established in 70 years ago with the active participation of Madhavraj Joshi, father of martyr Sukraraj Sastri.
