BRB for motion’s success in Parliament
Former prime minister and Naya Shakti Nepal coordinator Baburam Bhattarai on Friday said that the impeachment motion against suspended chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lokman Singh Karki should be passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament.Former prime minister and Naya Shakti Nepal coordinator Baburam Bhattarai on Friday said that the impeachment motion against suspended chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lokman Singh Karki should be passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
Issuing a statement, Bhattarai took a U-turn from his previous position on Karki’s impeachment, saying that the party hoped for a successful passage of the impeachment motion.
Earlier, he had tweeted that instead of removing one from the post, there should be a campaign for holding them accountable to Parliament.
Bhattarai was silent during Karki’s appointment three and a half years ago but had gone on later to praise him as a capable and experienced bureaucrat.
Changing his previous stance, the former Maoist leader dubbed Karki as a “wrong man heading a powerful constitutional body”.
The party also presented a detailed account against Karki saying that he had refused to present himself to the parliamentary panel as summoned and obstructed the court’s procedure.
“If any head of a constitutional body fails to discharge his duties properly and goes against it, we believe it’s the prerogative of the House to impeach him,” a statement issued by party Spokesperson Khimlal Devkota said.
