“The country is held hostage due to the ego of big parties,” Gachhadar told the reporters in Dhangadhi on Tuesday, referring to Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre)’s indifference towards implementing the constitution in the spirit of the 16-point agreement they had reached with MJF-L.
Stating that the present political crisis in the country cannot be solved without changing demarcations of the proposed federal states, the MJF-L chief suggested an eight-state model to resolve the protracted dispute by addressing the issues of Jhapa, Sunsari, Morang, Kailali and Kanchanpur.
After visiting Tikapur where nine persons were killed in violent clash last year, Gachhadar said the state tortured dozens of innocent Tharu people.
“Some of the arrested people are innocent. Properties worth millions of rupees belonging to the
Tharu people were destroyed in the aftermath of the Tikapur incident and hundreds of people were displaced. The state is not serious about the matter,” Gachhadar added.
