Banda partially affects life in Kathmandu
Normal life has been partially affected in Kathmandu on Sunday due to banda called by Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist. Although there were no vehicular movement early in the morning, the number of vehicles plying on the road has increased now.
A large number of security personnel have been deployed in the Capital streets to prevent any untoward incident. Few transportation services including Sajha yatayat have been moving.
Any incident of arson or violence by the Chand-led CPN Maoist cadres has not been recorded yet. Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range SSP Bikram Singh Thapa said 77 cadres including Maoist central leader deployed to enforce the banda have been arrested.
Meanwhile, an unidentified group torched a motorbike and a car parked at a house in Dolakha in the wee hours on Sunday and decamped.
The car belongs to Indra Shrestha, the General Secretary of the Dolakha Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the motorcycle to the District Development Committee (DDC) Dolakha. It is used by the DDC information officer Bikram Karki. Another motorcycle belonging to a local Rabindra Pokharel was also set on fire by the assailants, police said.
The incident took place at around 2 am today. The miscreants are learnt to have pulled out the motorbike parked inside the house compound and set it on fire. The fire was brought under control with the joint efforts of the police and the locals. Had the fire not brought under control in time, it would have caught the house, witnesses said.
It is said the bandh has been announced by the CPN (Maoist) calling for ensuring food security.
