64 cases reported in 18 months in Mid-western Region

The dengue-affected patients have received treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital and Nepalgunj Medical College in Banke. Prakashraj Sharma, a health education officer at the directorate, said people from Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Rukum, Kalikot and Surkhet districts have been diagnosed with the disease.
Nepalgunj Medical College has also provided treatment to five dengue-affected patients of Kailali district.
The directorate said majority of the patients have already returned home after receiving treatment. At least 13 people have been found infected with dengue in Surkhet alone in the past one month. Health officials said majority of the patients were from Birendranagar. The district-based hospitals had referred dengue-infected patients to Nepalgunj due to lack of testing kits in Surkhet.
Alert in Hetauda
The Hetauda Sub-metropolis Office has put Hetauda on high alert following a rise in number of dengue cases in Makawanpur. The office has started spraying insecticides in the affected areas from Wednesday. Shankar Upadhaya, officiating executive officer of the sub-metropolis, said his office sprayed insecticides to destroy mosquito-breeding places to control dengue. At least 68 people have been diagnosed with dengue in Makawanpaur in the last one month. Bhola Chaulagain, a senior auxiliary health worker at the District Public Health Office, said the number of dengue cases has increased in Hetauda this year.
