Naya Shakti Nepal coordinator Baburam Bhattarai has remarked that there is no point in protesting the constitution amendment. He also urged citizens not to follow protest against the amendment as it was a ploy to mislead public for fulfilling vested election motives.
"Efforts have been made to mislead public to protest the constitution amendment. This is against national interest," said leader Bhattarai while speaking in a press conference organised by Press Society Province no. 5 in Rupandehi on Thursday. Leader Bhattarai was in the district to participate in condolence assembly for parliamentarian Bhakti Pandey.
"Political parties should amend the constitution at earliest based on reports prepared by State Restructuring Commission and Constituent Assembly's State Restructuring Committee," said the former Maoist leader.
Furthermore, he reiterated that political parties should not halt constitution amendment process under any pretext. Due to vested interest of the parties, the issues of national interest have always been under shadow, thereby flourishing the culture of political influence and bureaucracy in the country, said leader Bhattarai.
Former Prime Minister Bhattarai said that the districts division in province 5 was unnecessarily hyped because it was irrelevant to try to maintain same structures brought under effect during decades-old Panchayat regime. "However, Tharu cluster from Nawalparasi to Kailali should not be disturbed," he said.
Stressing on fully proportional legislation and directly elected president system in the country, leader Bhattarai said such systems would ensure preservation of nationality and ultimately lead the country towards development and prosperity.
Former Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang, Maoist Centre leader Barshaman Pun, Nepali Congress leader Chandra Bhandari, Rastriya Janamorcha's Badre Alam, among other political leaders, were present at the condolence assembly.
