Outrage over local restructuring
GULARIYA: The residents of Khairichandanpur VDC in Baridya obstructed the Gulariya-Rajapur-Kothiya-ghat road on Monday, demanding that the VDC should be part of a municipality, not a village council as suggested by the technical team of the Local Level Restructuring Committee (LLRC). The villagers said they will continue to protest until their demand is addressed. They contend that the VDC meets the requirements to be in a municipality. In Dhankuta, the people of Pakhribas Municipality have started a protest, demanding that the municipality should remain intact. Protests also broke
out at Padsari, Hatibangai, Chilhiya, Bagaha, Basantapur, Hatipharsatikar and Manaiya VDCs in Rupandehi district after the LLRC proposed separating the VDCs from the current constituency to form a separate village council.
