In a meeting convened at Sheetal Niwas, Kathmandu on Sunday, President Bhandari called on the parties to forge consensus on the contentious issues regarding the amendment bill registered at the parliament.
During the meeting summoned by President Bhandari, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed his readiness to seek consensus holding discussion with the opposition parties Madhesi-centric parties. He said that the revision to the constitution amendment bill could also be considered, Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Chairman Upendra Yadav said.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Yadav said they informed the president that the amendment bill registered at the parliament was not complete and their demand for revision on the same.
During the meeting, the parties opposing the bill said the government introduced the bill in a unilateral manner without the consent of the opposition parties.
Top leaders of the political parties represented in the Legislature-Parliament were present during the meeting.
Political parties are polarised after the government registered the constitution amendment bill at Legislature-Parliament on Tuesday. The main opposition CPN-UML has begun protests on the streets and in the parliament against the amendment proposal.
Though the amendment bill was aimed at fulfilling the demands of Madhes-based political parties and other ethnic groups, the disgruntled parties have not welcomed it.
