The 14th iteration of the Kathmandu International Film Festival (KIMFF) is going to start today at the QFX Kumari Hall, in Kamal Pokhari, in the Capital. Over the coming five days, the fest will be screening more than 80 films—documentaries, fiction, short films and animations. 

The opening day of the fest will be highlighted by the screening—the Nepal premiere—of the feature film White Sun (Seto Surya). The Deepak-Rauniyar directorial has garnered rave acclaims from film fests around the world, notably in Venice International Festival, and Cannes. It also recently bagged the Best Film Awards at the Singapore International Film Festival. The film that portrays a Nepal in the wake of the ten-year long Maoist insurgency features Dayahang Rai, Rabindra Singh Baniya and Sumi Mall in lead roles. The screening of the movie will start 2pm onwards. 

The opening day of the fest will also see the screening of The High Road (which documents a non-stop bike ride across the Himalayas); Planet Ice—The Himalayas, The Abode of Snow (which sheds light on the issue of global warming); Rise and Fall; and Trembling Mountain (which brings to screen the story of a community’s resettlement after being decimated by the earthquakes).

Also to be screened during the opening day are films such as Solo Base (From Climbing to Jumping); Tibetan Dreams; and Correre per l’essenziale—quando la metà è la vita (Running for the Essential: When the Aim is Life). 

Over the coming days KIMFF is slated to feature films that tell stories of Post-conflict Nepal, climate change and resilience, women empowerment, adventure and nature. 

Kimff will draw to a close on December 12.
