The hunger strike of Bikas Tiwari, Chairman of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Gajendrawadi), has entered 16th day on Thursday. He has been protesting on the premises of Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj, the headquarters of Saptari, demanding reforms in hospital condition and health services.

Youths of Rajbiraj organised a rally for the third consecutive day today to mount pressure on the concerned stakeholders to pay heed to Tiwari's demands.

"This hunger strike is my heartfelt campaign for public benefit," said Tiwari, who looks fragile after 16 days of hunger strike, "This hunger strike is driven by a collective interest and thus I will continue it till the demands are fulfilled."

On Wednesday, a team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) monitored his health condition and drew government's attention towards his deteriorating health condition and asked it to find an outlet through dialogue.

Tiwari is on a hunger strike with 26-point demand, mostly related to hygiene and management issues at the hospital.

Tiwari began his hunger strike at the hospital premises on November 23. He has set up a tent in hospital compound from where he is struggling for better facilities at the hospital.
