Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara has claimed that the Constitution amendment bill registered at the Parliament would be endorsed.
Saying that the amendment bill would be revised slightly, Minister Mahara expressed his confidence that the main opposition CPN-UML would also support the revised document.
Speaking at a meeting in Besishahar, Lamjung on Friday, Mahara said, “The constitution would be amended through consensus after revision on it.” He was here to inaugurate the fifth Lamjung Mahotsav.
He said that it is obvious that the government’s move gets mixed reactions—support and criticism. “We should find consensus from there. We are not going to withdraw the amendment proposal just because it has been protested.”
He added that the government will announce election date and by the time the constitution will take its concrete shape. He further claimed that the local body election would be held soon after the amendment of constitution.
“The government has been hold consultations with the political parties as part of the preparations to hold local body election,” he added.
Minister Mahara said the government has been making preparations to bring in advance budget at the earliest. “We will bring in the advance budget with consensus from all the political parties. The government will distribute additional Rs 100,000 as relief to the earthquake survivors from the budget,” he said.
