The National League champions were deprived of participating in the tournament due to an utter negligence from the country's football governing body.
Three Star had earned qualification to the second round of the AFC Cup by winning the qualifying playoff in August, where they finished top of their three-team Group ‘B’ with four points, one point better than hosts Erchim FC of Mongolia.
But Erchim FC replaced Three Star in the draw held in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday for the January 24-February 24 tournament. AFC was forced to replace Three Star with Erchim FC after Anfa failed to respond to the repeated reminder to register the club for the draw. After three of its written correspondence went unanswered, AFC had informed Anfa on December 6 that it “will not be able to accept your affiliated club’s (Three Star Club) entry into the competition.”
