During a meeting between UML Chairman K P Sharma Oli and NMKP Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe, the two leaders “agreed to continue protests against the constitution amendment bill in the streets and Parliament and not to let the House
function until it is withdrawn”, said NMKP lawmaker Prem Suwal.
Bijukchhe is learnt to have told Oli that the government’s talk about holding local elections when the necessary laws are yet to be introduced is nothing but a ploy to divert the attention.
Oli had reached Bhaktapur on Wednesday to meet Bijukchhe.
Bijukchhe also told Oli that keeping the amendment proposal inactive would mean that could be made active anytime and therefore the proposal must be withdrawn, according to Suwal.
“The two leaders discussed contemporary political issues, including House obstruction and ongoing protests against the amendment bill,” said Subas Nembang, deputy leader of UML’s Parliamentary Party. “They also dwelt on constitution implementation.”
“The two parties are of the view that the amendment bill registered by the government is against national interest,” said Nembang. “So they agreed to join hands to further strengthen their plan to obstruct House and launch street protests.”
