In a thrilling match at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo, Nepal overcame some nervous moments and looked on course of victory when Airee slammed the second ball of last over for six while chasing 228 runs for victory. Airee's only six in the inning meant Nepal needed two runs from the last four balls with one wicket in hand. But Sri Lankan bowler Pravin Jayawickrama trapped Airee lbw to claim the prized wicket and secure one-run victory in a nail-biting finish.
Avinash Karn scored 40 and Aadil Khan slammed 39 runs for Nepal.
Winning the toss and fielding first, Kamal Singh Airee's 3-43 and Pawan Sarraf's two wicket restricted hosts Sri Lanka to 227 runs. Sri Lankan inning was build around Hasitha Boyagoda's 83 and late 48 from Ashen Bandara.
Nepal is pitted on Group A alongside India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Nepal have so far crashed out from group stage of the tournament in the first two editions.
