Tension gripped the election venue of Bhajang Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday after a clash ensued following a dispute over verifying photo of a voter.
Police constable Prakash Bhandari sustained injury in his eye when someone pelted stone at him during the clash, Inspector Radha Krishna Nath said.
Police took to baton charge to contain the situation. Though some of the businessmen are said to be injured in the baton-charge, the number of injured has not been confirmed. Some of the furniture, election equipments and electricity supply system have been damaged during the tumult.
The election was deferred after the situation at election venue became tense. Election Officer Karna Bahadur Khati said 344 votes cast until the afternoon are safe. Additional security personnel with riot-controlling gears have been deployed at the election venue.
The election team said the voting will resume after the situation calms down. Acting Chief District Officer Khagendra Malla and DSP Hikmat Singh Bhandari have reached the incident site.
