A total of 11 tonnes of solid waste was extracted from Bagmati River and its various tributaries in Kathmandu Valley on Saturday.
Seven tonnes of waste was collected from the Sinamangal-Tilganga stretch of Bagmati River under the Bagmati River Mega Clean-Up Campaign that entered its 192nd week on Saturday, according to Purushottam Kandel of the High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilisation.
Officials from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, personnel of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force, and members of the public participated in the clean-up drive.
Similarly, a separate programme was organised to mark the 100th week of Tilganga area clean-up drive, spearheaded by the Tilganga Women Group.
On Saturday, campaigners extracted one metric tonne of solid waste from Rudramati River from Bhangal area in Budhanilakantha Muni-cipality under the Rudramati Clean-up drive that entered its 151st week on Saturday, said Campaigner Purushottam Koirala. Campaigners also removed three tonnes of waste from the tributary of Bishnumati at Tarakeshower.
