The Kathmandu Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) on Thursday launched a “Mobile Public Awareness Vehicle”, a van with LED screen that displays video messages to teach the public about road safety and traffic regulations. 

The MTPD believes that moving pictures are more effective than still images and texts to capture public attention, hence the digital advertising van. 

“The van will be placed at public places for the onlookers to watch,” said MTPD Chief DIG Prakash Aryal. “We are trying to reach out to the people in many ways to make them aware of road safety and traffic rules.”

The initiative is supported by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and  the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. 

Meanwhile, the KMC is preparing to install more traffic lights in the streets of Kathmandu.

“We have just completed installing 31 traffic lights and we plan to install some more in the coming days,” said KMC Chief and Executive Officer Rudra Singh Tamang.

KMC hands over ambulance to NA

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) handed over an ambulance to the Nepal Army on Thursday. KMC Chief and Executive Officer Rudra Singh Tamang presented the ambulance key to Maj Gen Kishor Jung Rana amid a function held at the NA headquarters.

The two-bed ambulance is equipped with all essential medical equipment to provide emergency care and treatment, including minor operation and child delivery.

The ambulance was orginally donated to the KMC by the China.  In 2012, the Chinese government had provided five ambulances to the KMC for emergency use.

The KMC has already handed over two of the ambulances to Ganeshman Singh Foundation and the Metropolitan Police Office in Ranipokhari.
