Basnyat seeks expansion of CIAA’s jurisdiction

After submitting the 26th Annual Report 2015-16 to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday, Bashnyat sought expanded jurisdiction for anti-graft body even though the new constitution stripped it from its jurisdiction of overseeing improper conduct.
The CIAA has been seeking jurisdiction even to look into the private sector as per the United Nations Convention against Corruption of which Nepal is a signatory.
Bashnyat said that the CIAA has been focusing on penalty and preventive measure to combat corruption. "We have also emphasized on partnership with domestic and international organisations working in the field of anti-corruption and civil society.
On the occasion, President Bhandari said she would take initiative for the implementation of the CIAA's suggestions to the government regarding combating corruption.
