Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Shashank Koirala has accused his party’s ruling partner CPN (Maoist Centre) of delaying the elections in the country.
Talking to journalists at Biratnagar airport on Friday, Koirala said, "The delay in election is due to the ruling Maoist party. The party has no benefit in going to election and therefore it is extending its tenure in the government." He further said the government will change after the elections.
Leader Koirala said the elections will be conducted even if Madhes-based parties boycott it. "There is no alternative to elections in order to protect the nationality and implement the constitution. But it is possible that election might not take place due to the double standard talk of Madhes-based parties," said Koirala. He said the elections might be dismissed if Madhes-based parties desire to do so.
He pointed out the risk that the newly promulgated constitution might fail if elections are not conducted in time. He suggested conducting local body election as the local level election might trigger further conflict.
