Kantilal Kashyap, a Dubai-born Indian national, was held from the airport premises after he was found wearing two chains and a bracelet weighing half a kilo each.
He had boarded an Air Arabia flight from Dubai. The market value of the confiscated gold is Rs7.1 million. Kashyap’s passport revealed that he had visited Kathmandu on July 2016 and returned on February 6.
Officials believe that Kashyap’s frequent visits to Kathmandu could suggest his involvement in gold smuggling. Kashyap, originally from Ahmedabad, India, holds a passport issued from the United Arab Emirates. On January 5, the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested three persons with 33kg gold outside the TIA. (PR)
