Political parties have differing views whether to adopt the electoral threshold system.
The three big political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre)—are in the favour of adopting this system while small parties oppose this.
A meeting of the Commission held on last Tuesday decided to send a letter to the Home Ministry seeking its support to pass the bill, according to statement issued today.
The Commission highlighted the necessity of the law related to political parties to ensure their participation in the upcoming local polls.
The meeting, while expressing its commitment to holding the election in a free and impartial atmosphere on the scheduled date or coming May 14, thanked the government for announcing the date for local polls.
The government on February 18 had declared May 14 as the date for local elections.
The country is holding the local poll first time after 19 years.
Besides, the Commission said it needs the report about the restructuring of the local level for electoral purpose and demanded the government provide the document to the Commission soon.
