Oppon parties to obstruct constitution amendment process
The main opposition party CPN-UML has decided to hold discussions with other opposition parties to decide whether to support or foil the amendment proposal registered at the Parliament.A coalition of nine-opposition parties including the CPN-UML has decided to obstruct the amendment bill in the parliament.
A meeting of the opposition parties in held in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu decided to obstruct the House proceedings if the government tried to push the amendment bill through, Rastriya Janamukti Party (Loktantrik) lawmaker Shiva Lal Thapa said.
The opposition, however, said they will allow the proceedings to run if other issues such as election bill, impeachment motion were discussed in the Parliament.
The meeting also decided to hold further talks with ruling parties and Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha on the disputed issues including the amendment bill.
Earlier today, a meeting of UML's parliamentary party in New Baneshwor decided to consult with the parties in the opposition coalition including CPN-ML, Rastriya Janamorcha Party, and Nepal Workers Peasants Party before taking a final decision on the amendment bill.
UML, during an all-party meeting on Tuesday, had given indicaiton that it would become flexibile on regarding the amendment bill.
