Addressing a mass meeting organised by his party in Sindhuli on Thursday, Oli said the UML would not let the bill be endorsed as it was a ploy to foil the scheduled local level elections.
Claiming that the government felt the pressure from the opposition party to announce the election date, the UML chief said the government had staged a “drama of constitution amendment to foil the elections”. He asserted that no power could thwart the vote.
The government has announced to conduct the local level elections on May 14.
Govt committed to elections: PM Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the government was committed to holding three tiers of elections by January 21, 2018. Inaugurating the Rukum Fair on Thursday, the PM urged all to make the announced local level elections a success. “Not only to avert possible constitutional and political crisis, the elections should be held within the deadline also for the country’s overall development,” Dahal said. “We fought for a decade to establish the republic, we struggled another decade and promulgated the constitution. We should struggle yet another decade to make Nepal a prosperous country.”
