The Khungri VDC of Rolpa district has been linked with a motorable road after the Ministry of Local Development (MoLD) provided Rs 4 million to complete the project.
The 7 km road connects Khungri to the Ghorahi-Libang road, an official at the VDC office said. Besides the contribution made by the MoLD to the project, he said, the VDC office and the District Development Committee had provided Rs 2.5 million and Rs 1.6 million respectively.
“The budget was also used to open a 15 km road from Khungri to Goganpani Village,” he said.
The road connectivity has become a cause for celebration for Khungri villagers.
“The road will bring both prosperity and exposure to our place. We now plan to develop the historic Khungrikot Durbar into a tourist destination,” said local Ashok Giri.
Lawmaker Amar Singh Pun has assured to help Khungri villagers in the palace conservation and road upgradation works.
Om Prakash Giri, a village local, said their long-term goal was to extend the road all the way to Libang, the district headquarters.
“Already, the road has helped us, villagers, take our produces to the market and transport essential goods to the village. We can expand our market reach if there is a direct road connectivity with Libang,” he said.
