The Kathmandu Triennale art festival that will feature more than 60 artists from 25 countries is slated to be held in the Capital starting March 24. 

To discuss the motives and preparation of the upcoming event, the Society of Fine Arts Journalists Nepal (Sofaj) invited Sangeeta Thapa, founder of the Siddhartha Art Foundation and organiser of the fest, to be a part of the Society’s monthly talk show, Kala ka Kura. 

Speaking during the discussion, which was moderated by artist-journalist Devendra Thumkeli, Thapa said that the organisers hope the fest will prove to be instrumental in taking Nepali art to the world and bringing contemporary international art to Nepal. 

“Moreover, the fest, we hope, will prove to be a platform for artists and organisations working towards promotion of arts and culture to learn and promote the arts,” Thapa said. 

Thapa added, “Galleries that focus exclusively in promoting arts are rare in Nepal, and the condition was further exacerbated by the earthquakes. Despite all that, embracing many challenges, we are gearing up towards a successful organisation of the fest.” Featuring works by 17 Nepali artists and more than 40 artists from countries such as China, Japan, the UK and the USA, Kathmandu Triennale will be held across eight venues in the Capital for three weeks.
