In the memorandum, the alliance of seven Madhes-based parties demanded withdrawal of the local level elections slated for May 14, amendment of the constitution, keeping the local level structure within the provincial jurisdiction and implementing the three-point agreement reached with the alliance during the formation of government.
During the meeting, Sadbhawana Party Co-chairman Laxman Lal Karna said that a high-level probe committee should be formed to conduct a fair investigation into the Saptari incident and also demanded martyr status to the deceased, compensation to their family members and treatment to those injured in Monday’s clash.
Four persons died and dozens injured when police opened fire to contain the situation following a clash with agitating cadres of Madhesi Morcha during the main opposition CPN-UML’s Mechi-Mahakali campaign.
In response, PM Dahal assured the Morcha leaders that he would hold discussions with the ruling and opposition parties about its demands and would try to address the demands promptly.
