Chief of Army Staff Chhetri will reach Saptari where a recent clash between Madhesi Morcha supporters and the police force led to the fatalities. He will visit the Nepal Army battalion there, according to the NA.
On Sunday, he visited the Rana Sher Battalion in Sarlahi, Shree No 1 Battalion and Amaha Post and Gorakhnath Battalion in Dhanusha district, according to the Army.
His visit holds significance at a time when tensions are running high in the Tarai due to the clash and the Madhes-based parties’ opposition to the May 14 local polls.
Gen Chhetri is said to have taken stock of the local situation of the battalion and posts, and training and logistics provided to the Army personnel.
He inaugurated a recently built residence at the Rana Sher Battalion and joined tree plantation at the Amaha Post. He attended an anniversary function at the Gorakhnath Battalion in Dhanusha. He will return to Kathmandu on Monday.
